An overview,
1. Definition of wear:
Wear is the inevitable result of friction caused by continuous loss, transfer or residual deformation of surface materials in relative motion of objects in contact with each other.
Some wear is beneficial, such as "grinding," which reduces the surface roughness of parts and sharpened the blade.
However, according to statistics, about 80% of mechanical parts are scrapped or invalid due to wear and tear. Wear not only consumes materials, wastes energy, and directly affects the life and reliability of the machine. Therefore, the study of wear has attracted great attention.
2. Main contents of wear research:
(1) Occurrence conditions, characteristics and change rules of main wear types;
2. Influencing factors of wear, including friction pair materials, surface morphology, lubrication conditions, environmental conditions, and sliding speed, load, operating temperature and other operating parameters;
3. Wear model and wear calculation; (4) measures to improve the wear resistance of materials;
(5) Test technology and experimental analysis method for wear study.
3. Wear process
The normal wear process of parts can be roughly divided into three stages:
ⅰ : Running-in stage; ⅱ I: Stable wear stage; ⅲ : Severe wear stage

I: The running-in stage
In the initial movement stage of the friction pair, the contact area of the micro-convex body is small, the contact stress is large and the wear speed is fast due to the roughness of the surface. Under a certain load, the friction surface is gradually ground down, the actual contact area gradually increases, and the wear speed gradually slows down, as shown in the figure.
ⅱ Stable wear stage:
Occurs in the normal operation phase of the friction pair. After running in, the friction surface is work hardened, the microscopic geometry changes, the actual contact area increases, and the pressure decreases, thus establishing the elastic contact condition. At this time, wear has stabilized, as shown in the figure, and the wear quantity increases slowly with time.
ⅲ Severe wear stage: due to the great change of friction conditions (such as the sharp increase of temperature, the change of metal structure, etc.), the wear speed increases sharply. At this time, mechanical efficiency decreases, accuracy decreases, abnormal noise and vibration, and finally lead to complete failure of parts.
* Ice from the change of wear process, in order to improve the service life of machine parts, we should try to prolong the "stable wear stage".
